05 / LOGISTICS & REDISTRIBUTION

Sequence collection, storage and redistribution around the build programme.

Good logistics connects inventory status with access, loading, packaging, transport and destination readiness.

Schedule around the site

Begin with renovation milestones, room release dates, loading windows, access restrictions and destination requirements. A collection plan should identify what moves, when it moves, who controls access and where the inventory goes next.

Loading plans should account for dimensions, weight, fragility, packaging, floor protection and vehicle access. Items should be grouped by destination or handling requirement. Inventory status should be updated when goods are collected, held, prepared or dispatched.

Four operating models

Direct redistribution moves an assessed item from the renovation site to a ready destination. It reduces handling and storage, but requires accurate timing and a confirmed receiving party.

Temporary storage separates collection from final placement. It provides schedule flexibility but adds handling, space, security and condition-control requirements.

Centralized sorting brings mixed assets to a controlled location for assessment and preparation. It supports consistent decisions but adds transport and handling.

Staged collection removes assets in planned batches as areas become available. It fits complex renovations but requires disciplined inventory updates and repeat coordination.

Protect the asset and the programme

Packaging should be proportionate to the item. Protect corners, glass, finished surfaces and upholstery from impact, moisture and abrasion. Label components, destination, orientation and handling needs. Temporary storage should be suitable for the materials and accessible for inspection.

Redistribution is destination matching, not simply moving stock. Confirm dimensions, access, quantity, finish, condition and receiving dates. A destination change should trigger an inventory and transport review.

Documentation

Keep collection records, condition notes, photographs, batch references, storage movements and delivery acknowledgements together. Clear records support project sequencing and make exceptions visible before they become delays.
